She thought he said that to everyone, that he was being insincere. She had met so many guys that had promised her the world, that when he finally arrived she was skeptical. He couldn’t blame her for that.
She needed some space. She needed to figure out what was going on in her own life, her own mind. The hardest part was that he didn’t want to give it to her. But he had to. Not because he was forced to, but because he wanted to make her happy and give her everything she desired. And right now she desired space. He didn’t want to tell her how she should feel, or tell her she was wrong. He wanted to be the guy that finally put her feelings before his own. If she wanted space he would give her space.
He wouldn’t give up though, that is not who he is. He looked at the space as a time to improve, a time to make himself better. He studied and practiced and drove himself to the limits of his capabilities. He worked hard so that if or when the time came he would be prepared. He did not give up the hope of finding her again, he held onto it like a starving man with his last morsel of food. He could improve, and he would.
He did not know what it was like to be a girl, but he understood that sometimes it could be really rough. Men come in and promise the world, but don’t really mean what they say. How could she know he was any different? Sometimes life is hard even for the toughest of people. The world can be a confusing place, and only those who live in ignorance will ever deny this. Many think that the smarter a person is, the more confusing it can be, and this girl was brilliant. She was bright. She shone like a star on a dark night, bright enough to lead a lost ship to safety. Bright enough by which to navigate upon when everything else fails. It is for this reason he stares at the sky at night, so he can go where she guides him.

This story is far from over, but I will stop here, because right now I don’t know where it will end, I only know that the future is unwritten and we must all look to the stars sometimes, because maybe the are trying to tell us something and all we need to do is wait for them to align. - Daniel Dart
